The melting point, density, and tensile strength of niobium 2.5 tungsten rod (i.e. niobium tungsten alloy containing 2.5% tungsten) are as follows
Melting point:
The melting point of pure niobium is 2468 ℃, and the melting point of pure tungsten is 3422 ℃. The melting point of niobium tungsten alloy increases with the increase of tungsten content, and for every 10% increase in tungsten content, the melting point increases by about 150 ℃. For niobium alloys containing 2.5% tungsten, the melting point is close to pure niobium, estimated to be around 2500 ℃.
Density:
The density of pure niobium is 8.57 g/cm ³, and the density of pure tungsten is 19.3 g/cm ³. The density of niobium alloy containing 2.5% tungsten is close to that of pure niobium, about 8.6-8.7 g/cm ³.
Tensile strength:
Due to the reduced strengthening effect caused by the decrease in tungsten content, the tensile strength of Nb-2.5W alloy should be lower than that of alloys with 10% tungsten. Conservatively estimated, the room temperature tensile strength range is about 400-450 MPa.
Niobium tungsten alloy can be used to manufacture rocket nozzles, high-temperature structural components, reactor internal components, nuclear fuel supports, corrosion-resistant reactors, pipelines, high-temperature furnace components, sputtering targets, etc.
Niobium tungsten alloy has high hardness and requires the use of hard alloy cutting tools or electrical discharge machining. Coating (such as silicide coating) may be required to prevent oxidation during high temperature use.
