Material preparation process

Alloy melting
Using vacuum electron beam melting (EBM) or vacuum arc melting (VAR) technology, high-purity tantalum powder (≥ 99.99%) is mixed with tungsten powder in a ratio of 2.5:97.5, and the melting temperature needs to reach 3200-3500 ℃ to form a uniform solid solution.
After melting, the ingot needs to undergo multiple forging processes (such as axial upsetting and radial elongation) and acid washing (hydrofluoric acid sulfuric acid mixture) to eliminate segregation.
‌Ingredient control
The oxygen content is strictly controlled at ≤ 100ppm to avoid the formation of brittle oxides.
In 2024, patented technology significantly improves the stability of alloys in high-temperature oxidation environments by adding hafnium element.

Valve Forming Process

Processing of raw materials
Hot processing: Initial forging temperature of 1200-1400 ℃, total processing rate of 75% -85%, ensuring grain refinement (size<30 μ m).
Cold processing: Multi pass drawing (with a reduction rate of 10-20%/pass), combined with intermediate vacuum annealing (1000-1200 ℃) to eliminate stress.
Precision molding
The valve body is processed by a five axis CNC machine, with a surface finish Ra ≤ 0.8 μ m.
Sealing surface is welded with tantalum tungsten alloy powder (plasma spraying process), with a thickness of 0.2-0.5mm.

The preparation of tantalum 2.5 tungsten valves mainly involves five steps, including raw material preparation, forming and sintering, melting and reprocessing, rolling and final treatment, and quality inspection. The first step is to mix ultrafine tantalum powder and tungsten powder in a ratio of 2.5:97.5. Put the mixed powder into a drum mixer and stir evenly to ensure the uniformity and consistency of the powder. Then, the uniformly mixed fine powder is loaded into a mold and pressed into shape to obtain a preliminary alloy billet. The next step is the sintering process, which requires placing the formed alloy billet into a vacuum sintering furnace for vacuum heating and sintering. This step involves forming metallurgical bonds between powder particles to obtain coarse ingots. Coarse ingots need to be melted multiple times using vacuum electron beam furnaces or vacuum arc furnaces to further purify and homogenize the alloy composition, thereby obtaining alloy ingots. In order to improve the performance of alloy ingots, further cold forging treatment is required. Then, the cold forged alloy is subjected to vacuum annealing treatment to eliminate stress and stabilize the structure.
The processing steps and commonly used processes of valves are mainly designed in six steps: casting: pouring the melted metal liquid into the mold, taking out the mold after cooling and solidification, and carrying out subsequent processing and treatment. Forging: By treating metal materials with high temperature and pressure, they are formed in the billet. During the processing, forging can be used to improve the strength and wear resistance of the material. Precision machining: Using mechanical processing and other methods to surface treat and process the processed metal material to meet the needs of the valve. Welding: Two metal parts are connected together by arc, laser, or other methods to meet the requirements of the valve.
